Ratlam Division of Western Railway came into existence on the 15thof August 1956, under Divisionalisation scheme of Indian Railways. The rail link of Ratlam Division has a glorious history of more than 130 years. The Meter gauge section was started way back in 1874 while the Broad Gauge came into existence in 1893.

Ratlam is a major junction and rail division on Indian Railways on meter and broad gauge lines. It comes under Western Railways zone of Indian Railways.

 Four major Railway Tracks pass through Ratlam City, these are towards Mumbai, Delhi, Ajmer and Khandwa, amongst which the railway track along Khandwa is a Meter Gauge track.

           Ratlam division is contributing significantly in the development of social and economical conditions of the area by transporting various commodities like Cement, Clinker, Rock Phosphate, Sodium Sulphate, Caustic Soda, Soya de-oiled cake etc. from various loading posts.

PASSENGER RESERVATION SYSTEM(PRS) :-    

Passenger Reservation System exists at 25 stations i.e.  Ratlam, Indore, Ujjain, Mhow, Dewas, Nagda, Chittaurgarh, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Bairagarh, Rajendra nagar, Dahod,  Mhow defence location PRS, Vijaynagar (IND) Satellite PRS, Neemuch post PRS, Pratapgarh Post PRS, Pithampur post office PRS & Manawar post office PRS, Dhar NRH Dist. HQ, Khargone NRH Dist. HQ, Banswara NRH Dist. HQ, Jhabua NRH Dist. HQ, Barwani NRH Dist. HQ, Alirajpur (NRH Dist. HQ) & Maheshwar Post Office PRS.

UNRESERVED TICKETING SYSTEM(UTS) :-

Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) has been installed at Ratlam, Indore, Ujjain, Mhow, Dahod, Nagda, Mandsaur, Chittaurgarh, Neemuch, Barnagar, Khachrod, Meghnagar, Jaora, Laxmibainagar, Dewas, Shujalpur, Sehore, Fatehabad, Bairagarh, Maksi, Bercha, Thandla road, Bamania, Kalapipal, Omkareshwar, Nimbahera, Chanderia, Piplia, Malhargarh, Harkiakhal, Shambhupura ,  Piplod, Tarana Road , Tajpur, Pingleshwar, Pir Umrod, Akodia, Rajendranagar, Kalisindh, Bolai, Rau, Piplodabagla, Unhel, Palsodamakrawan, Asloada, Jabri, Parbati, Naikheri, Baktal, Bhairongarh, Mangliagoan, Panchawan, Jawad Road, Limkheda, Naranjipur, Bakania Bhaunri, Sant Road, Dhodhar, Dalauda Mangalmahudi, Phanda, Bangrod, Namli Raoti, Anas , Runkhera, Amargarh, Bisalwaskalan, Bajranggarh, Panchpipliya, Gambhiri Road, Baraylachourasi, Morwani , Bildi , Berawanya, Barlai, RnaylaJasmia, Karchha, Vikramnagar, Ajnod, Palia , Gautampura , Harniyakheri, Usra, Runija, Naugawan, Barwaha, Sanawad , Choral , Mukhtiara Balwara , Jekot, Bordi,Rentia, Kansudhi, Chanchlav, Patalpani, Attar  ,Ajanti ,Kalakund & NImarkheri stations. UTS cum PRS has been commissioned at Khachrod, Jaora, Meghnagar, Shujalpur, Barnagar, Bamnia, Bercha, Kalapipal, Maksi, Omkareshwar road, Sehore, Piplia , Malhargarh , Thandla Road, Nimbahera , Akodia, Kalisindh , Barwaha , Sanawad & Jawad Road stations.Total 20 UTS cum PRS commissioned so far.

JANSADHARAN TICKET BOOKING SEVAK (JTBS) : –

14 Jansadharan ticket booking sevak (JTBS) have been appointed (03 at Ujjain , 04 at Nagda, 01 at Neemuch,  01 at Shujalpur , 01 at Indore, 01 at Ratlam , 01 at Khachrod , 01 at Dahod and 01 at Mandsaur)
